Spring Apron!

Ok...it has been embarassingly too long since I've posted a craft on here. For shame! I had fun sewing this little cutie up this week and wanted to show it. I have gotten the Spring fever bad....spring cleaning, fresh starts, and bright colors. I love it all!! So I picked up some cute, "springy fresh" fabric and got to work on a fun apron to wear for Spring. Now I am not the best seamstress....in fact I am just learning and often get very frustrated so I wanted to make this because it was simple. And it was...for the most part. I used Simplicity Pattern #0384 (that I got from Joann's). The thing I love about aprons is that they are one size fits all!! Glorious! No fittings, no alterations....easy, peasy, lemon squeezy! So if you are looking for a fun, pretty easy project try this one, (or if your apron stash just needs a little pick-me-up!) Let me know what fun projects you've been up to! Happy Spring!

Tis' The Season!

Since Christmastime is fast approaching.....I thought it would be fun to send my parent's some Christmas pillow cases--all the way in Texas. My mom shares my love and excitement for Christmas and it is kind of a tradition that we send each other little packages with "Christmasy" things  at the beginning of the season to get each other excited about Christmas coming! I am taking a beginning sewing class right now and wanted to test my skills. I was surprised at how easy these were to make. For these pillowcases I used the tube pillowcase or "hot dog" technique. There is a great tutorial here. These were easy and quick to pump out and I thought they turned out pretty cute! It would be fun, for those of you with kids to make holiday pillowcases for them. (Easter, Halloween, 4th of July etc....) You could switch them out every season....I know...in an ideal world right??!!
But a fun idea. Hope you enjoy!! Happy Christmas season!!!

Square Foot Garden--The Finished Project!!

For those of you, like me, who are interested or excited by the thought of having your own square foot garden you may be wondering what you need to get started. Don't let the "starting up" process intimidate you--it is actually quite simple. Here's what you will need:
MATERIALS:

  • Four 4 foot 2x6 inch boards
  • Six 4 foot wood lath boards (I actually used twine to divide my sections)
  • Weed block cloth
  • Soil Mix (1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite, 1/3 blended compost) These can be found at any garden center, Home Depot, Lowes, etc...
  • Wood screws (3-4 inches long)
  • A power drill
  • The seeds you want to plant
That's it! Easy Breezy!

I finally finished my square foot herb garden that I've been dreaming about and I am loving it! It not only looks great, thanks to the square foot design, but smells wonderful---with all the herbs and I use the herbs a lot when I cook.
Here's my finished garden!

Chick Night Invitations

So, I am still working on my square foot garden but progress has been halted a bit as I'm waiting for my husband to help me saw some wood for it and help construct it. In the meantime, I thought I'd share some adorable "chick night" invitations I made for my ward Relief Society Opening Social. The whole theme was chicks and I thought these turned out so cute! I cut out the chick pop-up on my Cricut (Stretch Your Imagination cartridge) I believe the size I used was 2". The rest was just made with fun mix and match scrapbook papers from Michael's. They were a lot of fun to make and the night was a success!

Next Project......

Ok all you loyal craftgirly followers...ha ha. ( I'm sure there aren't too many of you yet! :) Just wanted to let you know that my next project will be tapping into my "inner gardener side." I am attempting to do a square foot garden in my backyard for herbs and other small plants. Has anyone else tried this? Success? I don't have a huge amount of space in my backyard, but I do have some and I would like to make the most of it. Plus I just want to try out this style of gardening! I like the space efficiency of it. As I make my garden, I will be posting pictures of the supplies you need and how to assemble it. I have a great resource that I'm using to help me get started-- if you're interested in getting into square foot gardening you may want to check out this book. Also, if any of you have tried this already and have tips or insights on it...feel free to share! Look for pictures soon--I'm excited to get started gardening!
